Savabeel's Mo'Unga Edges Verry Elleegant in Dramatic Winx Stakes
A little over half a length covered six horses at the finish of Saturday's $500,000 Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick, and it was Mo'Unga who claimed the first Group 1 of the season from the gallant defending champion Verry Elleegant.
After chalking up his 100th stakes-winner recently, Waikato Stud’s champion stallion Savabeel has another very promising horse in the making in the Chris Waller-trained Mo'unga who kept his record at a perfect two for two at Newcastle on Saturday.
A multiple Group 1 winning son of 8-time Champion Sire Savabeel … won on debut at 2 and Group 1 Rosehill Guineas winner at 3 … went on to capture the Group 1 Winx Stakes beating a first class field including 11-time Group 1 winner Verry Elleegant … always competing at highest level, Mo’Unga was a further 10-times Group 1 placed in 29 start career … new in 2024.
