Second Stakes Winner for Akeed Mofeed

Mark Smith - Wednesday February 12

Sensationally backed South Australian visitor Jyoti fought on tenaciously under Jamie Kah to claim Wednesday’s $150,000 Listed Alpha Gold Sovereign Stakes (1220m) at Launceston.

Settled back in fourth place in the run, Jyoti was flushed out at the 600 metres when the backmarkers began their runs and she led them up rounding the home turn.

The 2yo daughter of Akeed Mofeed (GB), looked likely to be run down in the closing stages but she showed plenty of fight to defeat the Wordsmith filly  Gee Gee Josie by a short-neck with the same distance back to Lindsay Park’s I Am Invincible filly Avenue Of Pleasure in third.

Trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, Jyoti made a winning debut at Morphettville back on December 28 before finishing second to the Headwater filly Mileva at Murray Bridge.

Stable representative Tim Hanley thanked the Trinder family for the help given while in Tasmania and described the Akeed Mofeed (GB) filly as a little bulldog.

“She showed how tough she is at her two previous starts and again today,” Hanley said.

“It was a perfect ride by Jamie, one out and one back and that was definitely the way to ride the track here tonight.

“I don’t know what they have planned for her, but it is great to get a bit of black-type.”

Bred by Goldin Farms, Jyoti is the second foal and second winner out of Bradbury Luck’s Listed VRC AR Creswick Stakes winner She Can Skate who was purchased by Goldin Farms for $210,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale before heading back to the same sale in 2019 where she was knocked down to Colm Santry Bloodstock for $45,000.

Goldin Farm’s will consign a More Than Ready (USA) half-brother to Jyoti to the upcoming Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale (Lot 88).

The dam of She Can Skate, Caniona (Canny Lad) is a three-quarter-sister to Group III BRC Vo Rogue Plate and LR GCTC Magic Millions 3YO Trophy winner Graceful Anna.

Now in the paddocks at Coolmore Stud, She Can Skate has a filly foal from the first crop of Caravaggio (USA) and was covered last spring by No Nay Never (USA).

Jyoti becomes the second stakes-winner for Swettenham Stud’s Dubawi stallion Akeed Mofeed (GB) who has nine lots catalogued for the Adelaide Magic Millions, one for the Perth Magic Millions and seven for the Inglis Premier.
