Hunter Valley Host Latest Round of Thoroughbred Sport Horse Jumping

Tara Madgwick - Monday November 4

The latest round of Thoroughbred Sport Horse Association classes were run at the Hunter Valley Spring Jumping Championships last weekend with Darley’s late champion sire Commands not only siring a Group I winner at Flemington on Derby Day, but also a winner over the jumps at this event.

By legendary sire Danehill, Commands sired many outstanding winners before his premature death in 2014, but none better than reigning New Zealand Horse of the Year Melody Belle, who won her tenth Group I race, but first in Australia, when taking out the Group I VRC Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington last Saturday.

Commands is also the sire of 15YO gelding Port Commands, who won the TSHA Group 2 Final (1.05 to 1.10) for young rider Paton Simpson. Port Commands won three modest country races and retired after 32 starts in 2010.
